Belief Systems

During the Covid-19 pandemic, visual artist Zerbe Sodervick found refuge working alone in her studio in the Rosemary District north of downtown Sarasota. After reviewing several books of poetry provided by Teresa, she chose the poem “Belief Systems” by Jack Wiler, who died in 2009.

Zerbe also hosts the Art in Common Places broadsides on the window of her studio and welcomes you to stop by to see them, take a postcard and visit her in her working studio.

Zerbe’s statement: Jack and I “met” at the studio. His words of hope gave me the courage to better love this broken world. Jack’s poems, filled with life experiences of humor, fears, and joys are an amazing gift. How lucky to have daily conversations with my muse Jack.

Teresa’s statement: I was thrilled when Zerbe chose to collaborate with Jack Wiler’s poem “Belief Systems.” Jack, who was not only a great poet, but was also my dear friend, died in 2009. Lucky for us his words continue to live.

Leslie’s Statement: Our friend Zerbe is a very special person who contributes greatly to the art community in Sarasota. With a lifetime of experience working with paper, print media, wax and other materials, Zerbe has a strong and unique aesthetic that aligns so well with the emotion expressed in Jack’s work.
